National University of Singapore student delegation visits Z-Corp

A student delegation from the National University of Singapore (NUS) consisting of 27 students visited The Zubair Corporation (Z-Corp) head office recently as part of their institute’s Study Trips for Engagement and Enrichment (STEER) programme.

Sharifa Al Ruhili, Technical Manager, Ara Petroleum presented a brief about Z-Corp’s group company ARA Petroleum Exploration and Production and the work it carries out in the oil and gas sector. She also shed light on ARA Petroleum’s vision for efficient operation while adhering to its HSSE policy of ‘no harm to people, no harm to the environment.’ She also deliberated on the oil exploration process.

Lina Hussein, Head of Communication and Social Impact, Zubair Small Enterprises Centre (Zubair SEC) spoke about Zubair SEC, a social responsibility initiative of Z-Corp. She elucidated how Zubair SEC has been a guiding and supporting arm for developing the culture of entrepreneurship in Oman. She explained that Centre has gone beyond the traditional notion of a ‘business incubator’ towards a holistic ecosystem providing support and motivation for the talented ambitious minds.

Speaking about the visit to Z-Corp, Koh Tze Yee, Supervisor of the National University of Singapore delegation said, “As an aspiring entrepreneur, I was incredibly heartened to learn about Zubair SEC. This is a really innovative operating model to create corporate social impact and we believe Zubair Corporation’s unwavering support for SMEs will provide Omani entrepreneurs a greater chance to succeed.”

Students lauded the strides made by Ara Petroleum, a dynamic entrant to the exploration and production industry of the oil and gas sector in Oman. Students specialising in the energy, oil and gas sector were happy to learn about the oil and gas sector in general and the exploration part in specific.

The STEER programme is designed to familiarise the NSU students with the diverse socio-cultural-economic environments of new and fast-evolving regions through a mix of classroom-based learning and experiential site visits.  As part of the trip students familiarised themselves with the unique heritage, culture, society and economies of Middle East countries including Oman where they spent two days visiting various government and private entities.
